I created this site to share my experience of trying six of the most popular pregnancy pillows on Amazon. I want everyone -- whether you’re pregnant or not! -- to enjoy comfortable sleep. When a site visitor purchases a product through a link featured in this post, I receive Amazon affiliate revenue. If you decide to buy one of the pregnancy pillows I’ve reviewed here, please consider using my link to make your purchase.
As anyone who has been pregnant will know, getting enough rest during those nine months is challenging at the best of times. When you’re dealing with pregnancy-related aches and pains yet still trying to go to work and lead a normal life, getting some decent sleep becomes your number one priority.
Throughout my first pregnancy, I worked full-time as a nutritionist until a week before giving birth, so waking up feeling refreshed was of the utmost importance. Unfortunately, that didn’t often happen. I constantly struggled with backache, and it was a nightly battle to find a comfortable position in bed. This was especially a problem during my second and third trimesters, when I had to sleep on my side. I’ve always been a back sleeper, so making this adjustment was a real challenge -- not to mention the growing belly I had to contend with!
I had heard about pregnancy pillows from some fellow moms, and I ended up borrowing one towards the end of my pregnancy. The improvement in sleep comfort was significant, so I decided that if I ever had another child, I would make sure to get a pregnancy pillow for myself -- and not just any pregnancy pillow, but one that would offer me the best possible support and comfort.
When I became pregnant again two years later, I was determined to actually sleep properly, rather than being exhausted and achey for nearly nine months!
I decided to try some of the most popular pregnancy pillows on Amazon, in an effort to find the most comfortable pillow available. I also wanted to find a product that I could use as a full-body pillow long after my pregnancy days were over. I’m very pleased to say that as a result of my search, I discovered a few great pillows -- and one that I think is exceptional.
I’ve often relied on the recommendations of other parents when choosing pregnancy and baby-related products, so I wanted to share my pregnancy pillow experiences with other moms (and dads). Learning about reliable, good-value products from people I can trust has made my own parenting experience much easier, and I would like to help other parents feel good about the purchases they are making during pregnancy and beyond.

What are the budget options like?
When browsing online for a maternity pillow, I noticed that there were quite a few budget options available on Amazon. Although none of these pillows had very good reviews, I was still tempted to try them because of the price.
However, I soon learned my lesson. The pregnancy pillows that I tried for under $40 were clearly mass-produced with little care for the quality of materials or the workmanship. In fact, several of them seemed like they had been made in the same factory, just with different branding. Not only did the fabrics tend to be rough and scratchy, but it was clear that these pillows wouldn’t hold up over time: the stitching was uneven and the zippers seemed rather flimsy. Even more troubling, several of these cheap pillows collapsed after only a few uses and were clearly not up to the task of providing long-lasting back and side support -- which is absolutely crucial during pregnancy.
As with most things, you get what you pay for with pregnancy pillows. And considering how important it is to get decent rest during pregnancy, I certainly think it’s worth spending a little more money in order to get a quality product.
Rather than wasting money on multiple pillows that lose their shape, I highly recommend choosing one of the pillows that made it to the top of my list. None of the products I reviewed here are significantly more expensive than the “budget” options, but they are drastically better in terms of quality and comfort. I don’t think it's worth cutting corners when there are tried and tested products, such as the Body Nest pillow, that can make your pregnancy easier and more restful.
